ABOUT US:
Tropik Network™ – Then and Now
The Haitian Television Network of America, Inc., a pioneer in Caribbean media (“HTN”) was principally engaged in the production and distribution of programming in the French, English and Creole languages, initially on “public access” channels in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
The company produced programming for television and specialty audiences for more than eighteen years. At the inception of HTN, and over a period of sixteen years, HTN grew from a weekly feature on Miami-Dade County’s Public Access Channel, to a two-hour daily program. In 2003, HTN expanded its programming to a full-time – 24/7 – cable television service on Comcast Cable, providing programming content focused on international news, community news, education, situation comedies, feature films, and sports.
In September 2004, HTN became the first and only network serving Haitian-American audiences to achieve a national network affiliation agreement with Comcast, the largest cable operator in the country, thereby providing for expansion of the HTN Network throughout the U.S. HTN was initially available for a monthly subscription fee to Comcast digital cable subscribers in South Florida and, subsequently, was made available by Comcast as part of its basic digital tier.
In January 2007, HTN entered into an agreement with Caribe Vision, a newcomer in the U.S. television market in Miami and New York City, and some significant changes occurred:
HTN changed its name to Tropik Network™
Although Tropik Network™ can still be seen on Comcast Channel 689 as part of its basic digital tier, the number of French and Creole programs have been reduced substantially, with the exception of its newly created morning program, Bonjour Haiti™. Produced by Tropik Network™, Bonjour Haiti™ is shown weekday mornings as part of the CaribeVision line-up on Comcast Channel 689, and simultaneously over-the-air on WFUN-TV/CH 48 in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Florida.
Bonjour Haiti™ is also part of the CaribeVision line-up in New York City and Northern New Jersey, Time Warner Cable and Comcast, and over-the-air on WPXO-TV/CH 34 in the Greater New York City area.
Tropik Network™ is fulfilling its goal to make a positive impact in the English-speaking Islands of the Caribbean. This journey began in July 2007 throughout the Islands of the Bahamas on Cable Bahamas, becoming available without additional charge to subscribers on basic digital cable, Channel 689,and in Turks and Caicos in early 2009 on peoples television.
